Mentors Needed at Copperfield Elementary A neighbor has recently informed us that there is a great need for mentors at Copperfield Elementary school. Being a mentor may require only an hour or two per week. Please contact Stacy Nunez at Copperfield Elementary to volunteer. The time to call is from 1:10 to 2 p.m. Her number is 821-2417. Let us know if you volunteer, or if you already have experience doing any volunteer work in the neighborhood. We would like to know what our neighbors are doing for the neighborhood

Neighborhood Garage Sale Some Copperfield residents are planning to have a neighborhood garage sale on Saturday, November 18. This would be a great opportunity to have a garage sale. Nancy Worst is planning to purchase advertising for this garage sale. If you have a garage sale, please go by Nancy’s house on the same day to donate a dollar or two toward the advertising: 12517 Fallen Tower Lane. Also, Nancy is planning to have a charitable organization pick up left over items from her house. If you would like this organization to come by your house also, please contact Nancy Worst: nworst@flash.net

DPS Numbers Fuel Concerns Over Yager Lane

In recent years it has become evident that Yager Lane is inadequate for the amount of traffic it carries. The Yager lane bridge is scheduled to be replaced with a larger bridge next year. However other parts of Yager Lane may stay the same, Yager will likely still be very narrow and inadequate for the traffic it carries. And new construction is still coming to the area.

Those of you who may want to ask the city for improvements may want to know the accident numbers for Yager Lane and comparable intersections. The following information comes from the Accident Records Bureau of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Box 4087, Austin, TX 78773-0350.

Traffic Accidents in the area, January 1, 1990 to November 30, 1999 Road/Intersection # accidents # Fatalities # Overturns Yager Lane 209 1 9 Yager Lane @ I35 Access Road 136 0 4 I35 @ Braker 215 0 4 I35 @ Parmer 102 0 4 US 290 @ Decker Lane* 39 1 2

*On September 16, 2000 channel 42 News referred to this intersection as an “accident trouble spot.”

Note: It is difficult to compare intersection statistics directly. TXDOT counts accidents at the intersections of I35 @ Braker and I35 @ Parmer but separates the count of accidents on Yager from accidents on the adjoining access roads. Either way, it is clear that Yager has a high number of accidents.
